New chorale group seeks members who love to sing

The newly formed, Northern Kane Chorale, is looking for singers who enjoy singing in a choral setting.

"Originally, we were looking at the choir as a way to connect the communities of Hampshire, Pingree Grove and western Elgin, " said director, Gregor King. "But we have members who come from LaGrange, Naperville, South Elgin, Batavia and St. Charles.

There is no audition process and members come to the choir with varying degrees of musical ability.

"We have professional singers singing next to people who haven't sung since high school," said King. "The sound that this choir is able to produce is really exciting. I'm so proud of them."

The choir sings for the benefit for others celebrating the "Concerts for a Cause." In the past they have raised money for the Food Pantry and hope to benefit another charity at their concert in June. The choir has 24 members now but hopes to grow to 40.

"I am also happy to see so many of our choir members willing to share their other talents, whether making posters, snacks for break, or sorting music," added King. "When I said we needed to do publicity, one member, a photographer offered to take the pictures and another offered to write the news releases."

Gregor King is the lead music teacher at Cambridge Lakes Charter School. He is a member of the St. Charles Singers, a professional chamber choir and has soloed with Chicago area choruses and ensembles.

The Northern Kane Chorale meets at 7 p.m. every other Monday in the Green building at Cambridge Lakes Charter School, 900 Wester Blvd., Pingree Grove. The final time to join for this year is April 7. The concert takes place June. All ages are welcome. There is no cost to join.

"A choir is a great way to meet new friends and experience the joy of coming together to make beautiful music."
