Rauner visiting Lombard to share reform ideas
Gov. Bruce Rauner will be in Lombard Sunday to elaborate on the topics he addressed in his State of the State address earlier this week.
Yvonne Invergo, executive director of the Lombard Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said she was excited to get a call from the governor's office asking if the chamber would play host to the event as part of Rauner's post-speech tour to communities throughout the state.
"We're all honored that Lombard was chosen and we're really looking forward to hearing what he has to say," she said. Lombard is the only Chicago-area community Rauner is visiting to discuss his speech in more detail.
About 150 people are planning to attend the event, which is being held from noon to 1 p.m. at the Westin Lombard, 70 Yorktown Center. That includes mayors, managers, chamber officials and residents from Lombard and surrounding communities.
"It will be a great event for Lombard " Invergo said. "It's exciting. The RSVPs are still coming in, the phones have not settled down."
The free event is open to the public, but the chamber is asking anyone who is interested in attending to visit www.lombardchamber.com to register before 5 p.m. Saturday. Organizers say the venue will only accommodate about 200 people.
Invergo said she hasn't received a lot of details about what Rauner will say, but has been told he will explain, in more detail, the fiscal and budgetary challenges Illinois is facing and "lay out what his ideas are to reform this state."
