Hersey advances to sectional semifinals

Jessica Schmidt scored a pair of goals to help Mid-Suburban East girls soccer champion Hersey stay alive in the postseason.

The Huskies defeated Glenbrook South 3-1 in a Class 3A championship game they hosted Saturday. That sends Hersey into a 7 p.m. Glenbrook South sectional semifinal against North Suburban Conference champion Lake Zurich, the No. 2 seed. Coach Darren Llewellyn's Hersey team is the No. 3 seed.

In the preceding Tuesday matchup at Glenbrook South, No. 1 seed Barrington will meet No. 4 seed Buffalo Grove.
