Westminster Christian records 3rd win
Although Westminster Christian's football team was detoured from postseason action last week in its second season of varsity play, it didn't stop the Warriors from setting new benchmarks for the program.
Coach John Davis wanted to see his team score as many points as possible and the Warriors surely took notice as they snapped a 3-game skid with their third win of the year, a 49-0 rout of Christian Liberty in Northeastern Athletic action in Arlington Heights Saturday that surpassed last year's win total of two.
Westminster broke its previous high of 41 points as the Warriors (3-5) jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter while scoring 21 in the second and 14 in the third. The Warriors also earned their first shutout in program history as the team recovered 4 fumbles, recorded 3 sacks and snagged 2 interceptions.
Running back Xavier Brown led the way with 106 yards and 3 touchdowns on 9 carries while quarterback Max Tucker completed 4 of 14 passes for 77 yards and a touchdown. Receiver Scotty Graziano managed 9 catches for 65 yards and a touchdown and Keaton Frens caught a 12-yard TD pass. Nick Demaira (33 yards rushing) tallied a score and recovered a fumble while he, John Davis and Chad Christensen each had sacks. Brown and Graziano each had picks.
