Ailes' odd reward

Ms. Gretchen Carlson, a former Fox News anchor, settled a sexual harassment lawsuit against Mr. Roger Ailes and Fox News for $20 million. Fox and Ailes initially denied these charges until Ms Carlson produced damning recordings supporting them. Within 14 days, there was this settlement. Fox paid Ms. Carlson. Mr. Ailes paid no one, but receives a $40 million severance package from Fox. So Mr. Ailes denies everything, pays nothing and receives $40 million for his troubles. What is wrong with this picture?
