Crews starting work on I-65 widening near Indianapolis

GREENWOOD, Ind. (AP) - Crews are set to start shifting traffic over the weekend on Interstate 65 for a project adding lanes to the highway in Indianapolis' southern suburbs.

The state highway department says the contractor is expected Monday to begin working around the clock six days a week to complete the work by the end of November. The nearly $36 million project includes rebuilding and widening I-65 between Southport Road in Indianapolis and the Main Street interchange in Greenwood.

Another repair project for I-65 slightly south of that area also has started. Highway officials say work will continue over the next several months on a $21 million project for roadway and bridge work between Indiana 44 in Franklin and Indiana 252 near Edinburgh.
