Chain-reaction crash at Oakbrook Center

A man backing out of a parking space near Neiman Marcus in Oak Brook Monday afternoon caused a chain reaction of crashes that ended inside the store, police said.

The crash happened just before 3 p.m. at Neiman Marcus in the Oakbrook Center shopping mall, 6 Oakbrook Center.

The vehicle, driven by a 68-year-old Warrenville man carrying one passenger, backed out of a parking space and inadvertently accelerated, striking two vehicles. As the driver attempted to reverse the vehicle, he struck two more vehicles coming to rest in the south vestibule of Neiman Marcus, police said.

Nobody was injured inside the store or in the parked vehicles. The driver and the passenger were taken to Elmhurst Hospital and released the same day.

The driver was cited for improper backing and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
