Round Lake Beach woman shot in leg

A Round Lake Beach woman is expected to survive after being shot in the leg Tuesday night, police said.

The 23-year-old woman was shot while walking with another person about 9 p.m. on the 1300 block of North Cedar Lake Road, Deputy Round Lake Beach Police Chief Michael Scott said.

She had earlier exchanged words with someone in a passing car, Scott said. A short time later, at the corner of Cedar Lake Road and Highland Terrace, the woman encountered the same people, who now were outside the vehicle, Scott said. One of them, a man, shot her, then fled in a car that was parked nearby. he said.

Scott declined to say what the argument that preceded the shooting concerned, citing the ongoing police investigation. He also declined to release a description of the assailant.

The woman was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
