Chicago truck company owner sentenced for fraud
The owner of a Chicago trucking company certified as a minority-owned business has been sentenced to 17 months in prison.
Jesse Brunt was sentenced for a scheme that used his business as a front to win a multimillion-dollar sewer cleaning contract from the city.
Brunt owned the Brunt Bros. Transfer company and pleaded guilty to mail fraud in December 2012.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported Brunt admitted his actions cost the city nearly $8.8 million, and apologized at Thursday's sentencing.
Brunt to the judge he felt ashamed and guilty.
Federal prosecutors say Brunt's company didn't perform the work, instead passing it to other companies that weren't minority-owned.
Anthony Duffy was the owner of one of those companies, Municipal Sewer Services. He is serving a 17-month sentence.
