Prospect wins Student Section Showdown
Prospect High School was named the inaugural winner of the IHSA's Class 3A/4A Student Section Showdown on Saturday at Carver Arena in the Peoria Civic Center during the boys basketball state finals.
Representatives from each of the four Class 3A/4A finalists - Normal Community, Ottawa Township, Prospect and Streator - were on hand at the Class 3A title game, where the winner was revealed between quarters.
"This was a great culmination to the inaugural year of this program and we appreciate all the schools who participated," said IHSA Assistant Executive Director Beth Sauser. "Kudos to our Student Advisory Committee for implementing a fun way to show off great sportsmanship and school spirit while getting student sections even more involved in representing their schools."
The Student Section Showdown entries were judged by the IHSA Student Advisory Committee, who graded each submission based on categories that include sportsmanship, spirit, student body participation and the originality of cheers.
Representing Prospect on Saturday were students Kyle Beyak, Alex Blethen, Beth Clifford, Kyle Formanski, Eryk Krzyzak, Katie Olson and teacher/coach Jon Kaminsky.
