Hanover Park police investigate 32-year-old's death

Hanover Park police are investigating the death of a 32-year-old man from Bartlett, authorities said. Officers found the man, identified as John Smrz by the Cook County Medical Examiner, unresponsive in a small grassy area within a town home subdivision on the 5700 block of Dutch Mill Court, southwest of Lake Street, police said.

A resident in the subdivision called police about 7 a.m. Monday to report a man lying down. He showed some signs of life when officers arrived, and there were no signs of trauma, Deputy Police Chief Andy Johnson said.

Paramedics took Smrz to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, where he was pronounced dead at about 10:49 a.m., police said.

The results on an autopsy Tuesday morning by the Cook County medical examiner's office are pending toxicology results, which could take weeks.

Police haven't ruled out whether drugs were a factor in his death, Johnson said. He wasn't found with any drug paraphernalia, he said.
