'The Donut Drop' coming to Rosemont shopping center
Doughnut lovers in the Rosemont area will soon have a new store at which to indulge, whether they're set on an old-fashioned favorite, or have a taste for something new and trendy.
The owners of The Donut Drop, a self-proclaimed mom and pop bakery coming to a vacant storefront in a strip mall at 7104 Mannheim Road, say they'll offer everything from classic glazed, cake and buttermilk doughnuts, to newer style Cronuts (a croissant-doughnut pastry) and cereal-covered doughnuts.
And for those looking for a healthier alternative, try a zero-gram or gluten-free doughnut.
“It's a new hip doughnut shop that still reflects back to the old-fashioned American doughnut days,” said Charlie Chan, who will be baking doughnuts daily. He's currently an apprentice at his uncle's doughnut shop in Gurnee.
Chan and business partner Lilian Le decide to put “drop” in the title of their business since they plan to offer doughnut delivery to customers in the area.
The Rosemont village board granted a special use for the business last week. The owners plan to sign a lease for the store next month, and then are planning on two months of construction. They hope to open by July.
