20-year-old charged in Bartlett burglary
A 20-year-old man who prosecutors say stole jewelry from his girlfriend's father was ordered held on $75,000 bail Wednesday on residential burglary charges.
Patrick Nehlsen told police he was angry with the man and figured he could sell the property to make money, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Anissa Jordan.
The man returned to his Bartlett home May 18 and found the door to his master bedroom kicked in even though there were no other signs of forced entry into the home, said Jordan. The man discovered some jewelry was missing, which police said Nehlsen pawned at two separate pawnshops.
Nehlsen left his identification at one of the shops, Jordan said. A receipt, signed by the homeowner's daughter, was recovered at the other shop, Jordan said.
Nehlsen's criminal background includes a 2015 conviction for fleeing and eluding from DuPage County and a 2013 conviction for possession of a controlled substance.
If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison. Nehlsen next appears in court on June 15.
