Off-duty policeman charged with firing gun at another cop

CHICAGO (AP) - An off-duty Chicago police officer has been charged with firing his gun a suburban officer during an incident last year.

Prosecutors said an off-duty Merrionette Park police officer and a second individual spotted John Gorman driving erratically last November. The officer, riding in a pickup truck, followed Gorman and called 911. Prosecutors say when Gorman stopped, the suburban officer displayed his badge, identified himself and asked Gorman to roll down his window, but Gorman drove off.

Prosecutors say Gorman later stopped his car and got out and fired five shots as the suburban officer and his companion drove by.

Gorman was tracked down by Chicago police using a license number provided by the alleged shooting targets.

Gorman on Tuesday posted 10 percent of a $50,000 bond and was released.

Defense attorney Michael Clancy says Gorman has been on paid desk duty since his arrest.
