Taxpayers can't keep up with schools' spending

I've just observed from my home an extravagant fireworks display following a Friday night football game at Wheeling High School.

I'm in my eighties. My kids have been out of District 23 and 214 schools for at least 35 years. I pay about $9,000 dollars a year in property taxes, most of which goes to those two school districts.

I'd like to know why my money is being spent on fireworks displays, swimming pools costing millions, thousands of iPads costing about $500 each, and teachers' salaries which can exceed $100,000 a year.

Must I sell the house in which my wife and I have happily lived for 42 years to satisfy these outrageous expenses, or can our school districts exercise a modicum of prudence in spending?
