Police arrest 34, seize guns during eastside crime sweep
DETROIT (AP) - Thirty-four people have been arrested by Detroit police and other law enforcement agencies during a crime sweep on the city's eastside.
Police say in a release Thursday that 24 of the 34 arrests made Wednesday were for felonies.
Eight handguns, four long guns, illegal drugs and $50,000 in cash were confiscated. More than 400 tickets also were issued.
A spike in crime and patterns of robberies and assaults in the 9th Precinct led to the sweep that involved more than 200 officers.
A crime sweep in November on the city's east side resulted in 60 arrests.
