New Packers headgear inspired by Eddie Lacy's dreadlocks
MILWAUKEE (AP) - Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy, whose dreadlocks fly as he racks up rushing yards, is the inspiration for some new cheese-themed headgear.
The Chedlocks hat is an update on the famous cheesehead foam-wedge hats originally developed by Foamation Inc. in 1987, according to Chedlocks creator Thomas Gryniewicz, of Mequon.
Orders for the Chedlocks began picking up after Gryniewicz wore the hat with its long, cheddar cheese-color dreadlocks to games at Lambeau Field this season, the Press-Gazette Media (http://gbpg.net/1y4N78y ) reported.
He said he hasn't been able to keep up with orders lately for the handmade wool hats, especially after ESPN cameras showed him wearing the gear during the Dec. 8 game against the Atlanta Falcons.
"All of a sudden, my phone and my email and my voicemail and everything just lit up like a slot machine," he said.
Orders began coming into the Chedlocks website from Illinois, Texas, California and Washington. He even sold a couple of hats outside Lambeau Field to a father who wanted a photo with his son who had real dreadlocks.
Gryniewicz designed the dreadlocks on a skull cap like Lacy often wears, but they can also be worn underneath other kinds of hats, such as baseball caps.
The locks also come in different colors: brown, pink and Packers green and gold. There's even an option for those who like double cheese.
"Some people are still into their cheeseheads and they like to wear Chedlocks with their cheeseheads," he said.
The Packers play in Seattle on Sunday for the NFC title and another trip to the Super Bowl.
