Elgin convenience store robbed by man hinting he had a gun

Elgin police are seeking a man who robbed a convenience store in broad daylight Sunday morning while hinting he had a gun.

Police said the robbery occurred shortly before 11:20 a.m. in the 400 block of Bluff City Boulevard. A store clerk told officers that a man walked into the store, implied he had a handgun then took an undisclosed amount of cash from the register before fleeing the business on foot. The clerk was not injured.

The robber was described as a black male standing about 6'2" with a medium build, police said.

Detectives from the Elgin Police Department's Major Investigations Division responded to the scene and will be conducting the investigation. Police ask that anyone with any information call (847) 289-2600, or leave an anonymous tips or information via the crime line at (847) 695-4195 or texting 847411 and including ELGINPD in the beginning of the text, along with the message and/or tip information.
