Police tell 80-year old: stop shooting down icicles

An 80-year-old Kane County man was asked by deputies to stop using a handgun to rid his house of icicles late last week, authorities said.

The Kane County sheriff's office responded to a call about gunfire on the 6N300 block of Essex Avenue in unincorporated Kane County around 9 a.m. on Friday, sheriff's office spokesman Lt. Pat Gengler said.

Police found the man shooting at icicles hanging off his home and asked him to stop.

“He had a .22 revolver and for some reason decided to shoot at them,” Gengler said.

Gengler said the man was not shooting in the direction of anyone or any other homes, and he has not been charged.

Police are still reviewing the incident, Gengler said Tuesday night.
