Olympic silver medalist and Buffalo Grove resident Megan Bozek was honored Monday night at the Buffalo Grove Park District board of commissioners meeting.
"Because of her success on the hockey team we wanted to honor her accomplishments." Dan Schimmel, executive-director for the Buffalo Grove Park District said.
Schimmel said he watched her play on the Olympic hockey team from his Buffalo Grove home, "She has a great slap shot."
The Buffalo Grove Park District tried to honor Bozek at an earlier meeting, but President Obama got to her first. An emotional Bozek choked back tears when she thanked everyone in the community for their support. Bozek plans on running a couple of camps this summer and start training for the next Olympics. The park district also celebrated her upcoming birthday with a cake.
