Snowplow blade slices vehicle, injuring 4

Four people were taken to the hospital after a crash caused the blade of a snowplow to slice into a vehicle Monday afternoon in Waukegan, fire officials said.

The crash happened near Route 120 and Greenleaf Street, Waukegan Batallion Chief George Bridges said. Details about the cause of crash weren't available Monday, but fire officials said the blade made contact with the passenger's side of the vehicle, which was possibly a Jeep, Bridges said.

All four of the injured were traveling in the vehicle and were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Three were seriously injured and one had minor injuries, Bridges said. The snowplow driver was not injured in the crash.

Nearby roads were shut down for 45 minutes, Bridges said, as police investigated. Waukegan, Libertyville and Gurnee ambulances transported the injured.
