Gov. Rick Snyder issues flag order to honor former lawmaker

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has ordered U.S. flags displayed at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff in honor of a former lawmaker who recently died.

The flag order is set for Friday to pay homage former state Sen. Harry DeMaso and his decades of public service. Flags should return to full-staff on Saturday.

Snyder also encourages Michigan residents, businesses, schools, municipalities and other organizations to display their flags at half-staff.

DeMaso served in the House of Representatives from 1957 to 1966, and the state Senate for 20 years beginning in 1967.

The Battle Creek native died on Jan. 9 at age 93.

A commemorative ceremony will be held early this spring to celebrate DeMaso's life.
