Libertyville schools making summer classes fun
Nearly 1,000 students in Libertyville Elementary District 70 are going to summer school this year - and loving it.
Classes at Highland Middle School and Copeland Manor School include gardening, spa and wellness, iMovie, ceramics, floor hockey and edible math.
"We have some wide-ranging activities," said summer school Principal Amy Morales. "There's some academic activities for enhancing math skills and writing skills. We have different art activities like ceramics and SmART summer arts, and we have some different sports classes as well."
A few of the more interesting classes include American Girl Doll, fashion fun, American Sign Language, jewelry making, NFL statistics, science investigation, and Wall Street in Libertyville.
"It's fun and you get to do a lot of stuff," seventh grader Natalia Michalski said as she created a headband in her fashion fun class. "I'm involved in spa and wellness, fashion fun, sewing and Web page. And my favorite one is Web page because you get to do a lot of stuff."
The classes for students in second through eighth grade started June 12 and run until July 13.
