Arborists hold tree climbing contest in Libertyville
The Illinois Arborists Association held the Illinois Tree Climbing Championship Saturday at Independence Grove in Libertyville.
Tree climbing competitions simulate working conditions of arborists in the field. Competitors perform five different events during preliminary rounds to qualify for the championship.
Each event tests a competitor's ability to professionally and safely maneuver in a tree while performing work-related tree-care tasks in a timely manner.
The purpose of the competition is to provide opportunities for working arborists to demonstrate and exchange new climbing techniques, increase the interaction between various firms and members in the industry, and provide positive public exposure for the profession.
