Johnson and Adams win Libertyville trustee seats

Two incumbents apparently will return to the Libertyville village board alongside a write-in challenger.

With all precincts reporting, unofficial totals showed Donna Johnson with 1,158 votes and Scott Adams with 1,115. Johnson, a corporate attorney, won a third term, while Adams, a banker who was appointed to fill a vacancy last August, won his first full term.

While it's likely Johnson and Adams are returning to the board, it's not certain until the votes for four write-in candidates are tallied. Write-in totals from early voting and votes cast Tuesday will be posted Wednesday afternoon on the Lake County Clerk's website, but it will take 14 days to get a final, official total that includes include mailed in and provisional ballots.

"If the results are indicative of the outcome, I'm happy to be serving the community again," said Johnson, a Libertyville resident since 1979. "I'm happy for the support the residents of Libertyville have provided me."

Adams expressed disappointment in the low turnout but praised the four write-in candidates, saying "my hat is off to all of them. I think they're all qualified candidates."

The ballot listed Adams and Johnson with spaces for three write-ins. While it's possible write-ins could win all the seats, only one is expected to make it onto the board.

The write-ins are Pete Garrity, a retired business executive who ran with Adams and Johnson as a slate; IBM executive Angela Trillhaase; Thomas Beyer, an investment executive; and Bethany Williams, a research analyst with the Lake County Workforce Investment Board.
