Guilty plea in fatal 2014 crash near Lakemoor

A Wisconsin man charged in a 2014 car crash that left a Lindenhurst man dead has pleaded guilty in the case, authorities said Tuesday.

Kenneth F. Szczesny Jr., 29, of Kenosha, pleaded guilty to aggravated driving under the influence causing death. He faces up to 14 years in prison and will be sentenced Nov. 24, according to a spokeswoman from the Lake County state's attorney's office.

Other charges against Szczesny, including reckless homicide, have been dropped, the spokeswoman said.

Szczesny was driving a pickup truck on Route 120 near Lakemoor on Nov. 25, 2014, when he crossed the centerline and struck a Honda Accord driven by Gordon Searle, 46, of Lindenhurst.

Searle died.

Szczesny's pickup hit two other vehicles, too.

Medical tests revealed Szczesny had prescription painkillers and another drug in his system at the time of the crash, authorities said.
