3 teens charged with attacking man, 87, in Elgin
An 87-year-old man practicing golf near baseball fields in an Elgin park was attacked by three teenagers who stole his golf clubs and struck him in the face and head, police said Saturday.
The man was able to drive away in his car a short distance from the attack, which happened around 7:30 a.m. Saturday in Wing Park, officials said.
The male teenagers - two are 15 years old, the other, 16 - then fled the area with the golf clubs, Elgin police said. The man was treated at the scene for his injuries and did not require hospital care.
A short time later, patrol officers found the teenagers near Clifford Court, according a news release. All three were charged with one count of armed robbery, one count of robbery of a victim over 60 and one count of aggravated battery of a victim over 60.
The three teens were taken to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center, where a detention hearing will be held Sunday.
