How can we trust Gov. Quinn?
Hats off to the Daily Herald for endorsing Bruce Rauner for governor.
During the election campaign, the Quinn supporters have painted Gov. Quinn as someone that Illinois residents can trust. Really? Consider this. Shortly after the 2010 election, Gov. Quinn and his Democrat colleagues passed a 67 percent income tax increase - the largest increase in state history. They softened the blow by saying the increase was temporary. Over the last three and a half years, Gov. Quinn and his bureaucrat buddies in Springfield have done nothing to change their reckless spending and borrowing habits so that the state could afford to roll back the tax hike.
The likely scenario is that if re-elected, the governor will endorse legislation to extend the tax hike or make it permanent.
That tax hike costs the average Illinois wage earner roughly one week's pay per year just for the increase.
By the time we get to January, that will be four weeks' wages sucked out of the pockets and purses of Illinois' working class just to cover the ineptness and incompetence of the politicians in Springfield.
So when Mr. Quinn asks you to trust him, how can you?
