Air cargo service returns to Bloomington airport
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) - Air cargo service has been reintroduced at the Central Illinois Regional Airport with a new FedEx Express hub.
The air courier services company celebrated its first day of operation in Bloomington with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday. Officials with both Central Illinois Regional Airport and FedEx Express expressed excitement over the $5 million private-public partnership.
A senior manager for the firm says FedEx Express' presence at the airport will allow it to expand capacity and service more of Central Illinois. He says the new distribution hub will allow the company to reach Champaign, Decatur and Springfield.
The (Bloomington) Pantagraph (http://bit.ly/1z7JUCd ) reports FedEx Express also has a distribution facility in Peoria, mainly serving the LaSalle-Peru, Bloomington and Peoria markets.
