Lake County students head to Illini Girls State

Nearly 40 rising high school seniors from Lake County will join students from every county in Illinois at this year's American Legion Auxiliary Illini Girls State, a state political office simulation program offering learning opportunities in leadership, citizenship and government. The annual program, celebrating its 75th year, began Sunday, June 21, and is being held through Saturday, June 27.

Students representing local units attending this year's orientation included: Eleanor Yankee, Alyana Gross, Dianna Antonio, Emilee Cho, Jaqueline Hamrick, Evelyn Kovarik, Hannah Manley, Rebekah Marassa, Catherine Shank, Allison Wallace, Dana Mabrey, Jennifer McKendry, Lindsay Pristou, Annie Simpson, Alexandra Walinskas, Danielle Delozier, Faith Berwick, Brianna Maikranz, Anna Ngo, Kayla Yanik, Nadia Chreno, Stephanie Benito, Madeline Guiard, Gabriella Haws, Christina Butler, Eleanor Woertz, Karina Diez, Rhylie Corbin, Maresa Gigliotti; Payton Oliver, Sarah Broughton, Yera Shim, Elizabeth Bernhardt, Kristen Gier, Hanna Heath, Janvee Patel, Kathleen O'Brien, Evelin Ortiz and Mya Patrick.

Organizations and individuals sponsoring this year's Lake County students include several of the Lake County American Legion Posts and Auxiliary Units, the North Shore Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, The Mundelein Knights of Columbus Council 13267, Mundelein Village Trustee Holly Kim, Mundelein High School, the Grayslake village board, Carmel Catholic High School, the Kiwanis Club in Libertyville and Zion-Benton, the Exchange Club of Grayslake, the Navy League, Cancer Treatment Centers of America/Midwestern Regional Medical Center and Mundelein Community Bank.
