Ineligible candidate for Richmond mayor refuses to withdraw
RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) - A candidate for mayor of Richmond who's ineligible to serve isn't withdrawing from the race.
Libertarian mayoral candidate Kamara Gard's name will appear on the Nov. 3 general election ballot after she refused to pull out Tuesday during a meeting with Wayne County Clerk Debbie Berry.
Gard on Friday had indicated she would withdraw after learning her move to a new address just outside the city last month made her ineligible to serve.
Gard said a Richmond street guide she consulted showed her new address was within the city, but the city limits actually are four blocks away.
Berry told the Palladium-Item (http://pinews.co/1MqIlqh) that if Gard is elected, it would be up to one of the other two candidates in the race to challenge her eligibility to serve.
