Geneva mayor picks nurse as replacement alderman
Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns is appointing Mary Seno to become the new 3rd Ward alderman.
He announced his choice Friday afternoon. The council will vote on confirming the appointment Monday.
"I have the utmost confidence in Ms. Seno's abilities to serve with independence, respect for the opportunities and challenges we face as a community and, above all, an uncommon perspective that will benefit all of us as we move forward," Burns said in a prepared statement.
Eight people applied for the vacancy. Former Alderman Dawn Vogelsberg stepped down in January to devote more attention to her family, volunteer work and job.
Seno is a registered nurse who works as a liaison and case-management coordinator for patients and staff members at Delnor Hospital in Geneva, where she has worked for 28 years. She lives on Foxwood Circle. Seno moved to Geneva in 1989.
She has two adult sons in college. She has been a widow since 1999.
