Letter: Get facts straight on grant to art program
In the Opinion portion of Saturday's Daily Herald, under the words "Facts Matter" in the masthead, editors indicated that readers should have no concern with recent action taken by the Naperville City Council in reviewing a contract with Century Walk Corporation.
A reader in reviewing this brief paragraph would think that facts mattered. But they didn't.
The reason is the facts as stated were not true. Century Walk is not a young "art show." It has been Naperville's public art program for over 25 years. The recent funding was indeed generous, but only after many years of city grants totaling over $4 million, of which the city has contributed one half.
The facts that matter are simply that this organization has been singled out and required to play by other rules than other comparable nonprofits; i.e., it is not a level playing field.
Maybe in the future if you're going to get the facts, you should contact the parties that you are "fact checking." You might get them right the next time.
