Naperville Park District to Dedicate the Ron Ory Community Garden Plots on June 13

The Naperville Park District invites the community to a dedication ceremony to mark the naming of the Garden Plots on West Street as the Ron Ory Community Garden Plots.

The event will take place at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 13 at the Garden Plots at 811 S. West Street.

The Park Board voted to name the plots in honor of former Commissioner Ory to recognize his 20 years of service to the Park District and his dedication to improving opportunities for community gardening and environmental education. Ory is a Master Gardener with the University of Illinois Extension and a member of the Naperville Community Gardeners. He regularly volunteers at the Garden Plots helping other gardeners and working on the demonstration area which he initiated and named the Idea Gardens.

The Idea Gardens were designed to inspire and demonstrate the use of native plants in landscapes at home and in other spaces. The Gardens include a sensory garden, a rain garden, a prairie, sedge meadows, an oak savanna and more. A set of interpretive signs installed this spring at the Idea Gardens educate visitors about each area. Eagle Scout Jeremy Tang designed the signs, which also can be accessed at http://www.napervilleparks.org/ideagardens.
