Cops: Arrests in drug deal that went sour in Antioch
Antioch police announced Thursday two suspects have been charged in a case involving a man who claimed he was threatened while the trio tried to commence an illegal drug transaction on Main Street.
Police said Kimble B. Menard, 24, of the 200 block of Oakridge Court in Antioch, was charged with unlawful use and possession of a weapon by a felon and unlawful aggravated assault, both felonies. Trey A. Wright, 23, of the 1000 block of Devon Drive in Antioch, was charged with misdemeanor battery.
Officers were summoned to the 800 block of Main Street at 4:41 a.m. Monday regarding a disturbance. Police said the man told them he got into an argument with Menard and Wright over the drug deal, and a rifle was pointed at him.
Police said the officers who searched the area watched Menard toss a gun near railroad tracks as he ran. The Antioch cops, who received assistance from other law-enforcement agencies, collected the .22-caliber rifle and set up a perimeter in an effort to catch Menard, according to authorities.
Officers eventually found Menard and Wright, who remained in the Lake County jail Thursday. Both suspects have July 9 appearances scheduled in Lake County circuit court.
