Authorities search Rock River for signs of suspected killer
ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) - Police and firefighters were using a sonar boat to search the Rock River in northern Illinois for any signs of a suspected killer.
Forty-six-year-old Michael E. Spraggins is a suspect in the killing of a 41-year-old Rockford woman in January.
Rachael Ross-Golden was killed by a single gunshot to the head at an apartment in Belvidere in what police believe was an act of domestic violence.
Belvidere Deputy Chief Mark Pollock says police received a tip that a man may have jumped into the Rock River on Jan. 2, the same day as the killing.
Pollock says the investigation indicates it could have been Spraggins.
The Rockford Register Star reports (http://bit.ly/1ATIKLV ) that the search of the river began Monday.
