S. Illinois schools preparing for Ferguson ruling

BELLEVILLE, Ill. - School officials in areas of southern Illinois say they're preparing for a grand jury decision regarding the shooting of an unarmed black 18-year-old in suburban St. Louis.

Jeff Dosier is superintendent of Belleville District 201. He tells the Belleville News-Democrat that a field trip scheduled for Friday was canceled. He said the district felt "it would be best to reschedule." He says the status of other activities in St. Louis will be decided next week.

Districts in Belleville and O'Fallon sent emails to staff about how to handle discussion about the grand jury announcement. Harmony-Emge school officials sent a note to parents.

A St. Louis County grand jury is deliberating whether to indict police officer Darren Wilson in the Aug. 9 shooting of Michael Brown.
