Elgin man guilty of abusing girl

A 29-year-old Elgin man pleaded guilty Tuesday to molesting an 11-year-old girl last year.
In exchange for Procoro Berruquin's guilty plea to aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a class three felony, Cook County Judge Thomas Fecarotta sentenced him to 36 months probation.
Fecarotta also ordered Berruquin to undergo sex offender counseling and register for the rest of his life as a sex offender.
Additionally, he is to have no contact with the victim, her family or anyone under age 18.
Berruquin, who had no criminal background, abused the girl last February, authorities said. During his bond hearing last year, prosecutors said he sent the victim's mother apologies via text message and tried to contact her by phone.
