Rockford taxi driver shot to death in cab
ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) - Police in Rockford say a taxi driver was found shot to death in his cab.
Officers responding Saturday to a call about a suspicious vehicle found the taxi van parked on the grass in front of two vacant, boarded-up homes.
The victim was slumped over in the driver's seat.
Assistant Deputy Police Chief Pat Hoey says the 33-year-old man had been shot in the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities were not releasing his name, pending notification of family.
Police say he had been sent to the area to pick up a fare.
The (Rockford) Register Star reports (http://bit.ly/1PX3gYs ) that detectives are investigating the death as a possible robbery and homicide.
