Ultimate's Level 5 team adds nine state titles
Following recent state successes at Level 3 and 4, the Level 5 girls from Ultimate Gymnastics now have their own reasons to celebrate - nine of them to be precise.
The Gurnee-based gym's strong showing at the Level 5 Illinois State Championships came across all age divisions and, as a result, the team as a whole placed second and the senior portion of the team placed third in the state.
Top among the performances was Amanda Davis in the Youth A age group. Amanda's scores of 9.75 on vault, 9.50 on floor exercise and 38.175 in the all-around earned her three state gold medals. In addition, she was runner-up on balance beam at 9.525.
Another gymnast winning multiple state titles was Ana Raquel in the Junior B division. She scored 9.725 on both vault and beam to take two first places at the meet. She also won bronze on floor exercise. Her teammate, Kristina Merten, came away with gold on vault, this time in the Junior C age group. She also added in two third-place finishes - beam and the all-around.
Two of Ultimate's other state titles came in the Senior A age group when Madeline Medica scored 9.70 to win gold on vault and Aideen Cazzinin scored 9.375 to take the top spot on uneven bars.
Vault was also where Anna Becker, Youth C, excelled. Her 9.625 score netted her a state gold. Meanwhile, in the Senior C age group, there was bronze for Sophie Prozument on uneven bars with 9.275 and a seventh-place finish in the all-around. Lucia Rodriguez also placed seventh in the all-around, this time in the Senior A division.
