Learn about 'Birds and Murder' at Elgin museum July 18
Joel Greenberg will discuss "Of Birds and Murder: The Life of Nathan Leopold" at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 18, at the Elgin Public Museum, 225 Grand Blvd. on Elgin's east side. Admission is $5 for this adults-only program.
This program examines the life of Chicagoan Nathan Leopold with an emphasis on his passion for birds. He gained undying infamy, along with his partner Richard Loeb, by murdering 14-year-old Bobby Frank in 1924.
Their deed became known as the crime of the century and many novels, movies, histories and even a musical dealing with the crime have been created.
Leopold was also a student of birds all of his life, making important contributions to ornithology. He developed a friendship with the president of the Elgin Audubon Society and agreed to deposit most of his own collection to the Elgin Public Museum - where it can be viewed during this program.
The museum is located at 225 Grand Blvd. in Lords Park on Elgin's east side. For questions, call (847) 741-6655 or email Francesca_epm@cityofelgin.org.
