Gurnee-area eighth-graders get a Taste of College at CLC
Twenty-three eighth-graders from Woodland, Viking and River Trail schools got a chance to bend and manipulate light as they attended a class in photonics at the College of Lake County.
The program Taste of College, now in its eighth year, was formed by a partnership with the Gurnee Chamber of Commerce and Woodland Elementary District 50 and Gurnee Elementary District 56.
Kids split into groups and played with different types of lasers set up by CLC Professor Bill Kellerhals.
Taste of College is targeted specifically for eighth-grade students who want to attend college in the future.
Classes included Directions in Business, Laser Photonics and The Power of Technology. Kids got a chance to explore various career opportunities that are available from their college choices.
The program was held Feb. 18 and 25 and March 4 at the College of Lake County, DeVry University and University Center.
