Illinois man shot by police charged with assault
GRANITE CITY, Ill. - A southern Illinois man shot by police has been charged in a domestic assault.
The Belleville News-Democrat reports 52-year-old Thomas Noser was charged Monday with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated domestic battery and aggravated assault.
The Madison County state's attorney's office says police found Noser holding a knife when they responded to a reported family disturbance Saturday. It says Noser ignored orders to drop the knife and charged the officers.
Police shot him twice. The attorney's office says he was in custody at a hospital Monday and will be released to the county jail upon recovery.
Police say two of Noser's family members had been beaten with a baseball bat to the head. They were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
It wasn't immediately clear if he has an attorney.
