Dads enjoy hot food and cool cars at Elgin Ribfest

Festival Park in the city's downtown played host to this year's Elgin Ribfest, and it was only fitting that on Father's Day the event benefited an organization that works to better the lives of kids.

The two-day event featured lots of ribs, of course, but also live music, drinks and a car show, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Elgin.

"Our objective is not only to organize and put on a great festival, but to bring the people of Elgin and the surrounding suburbs together for a great cause," said Tina Buchberger of The Global Hands Project, an organization producing local events to help various charitable causes. "The Boys & Girls Club of Elgin is a wonderful organization that continues to enable young people in our community to reach their full potential."

The second annual Father's Day Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show clogged South Grove Avenue all afternoon Sunday as auto fans checked out classic and rare vehicles.
