Indianapolis-area cities launch open data initiative

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Several cities in the Indianapolis area are working on a new open data initiative to increase the public's access to information on police department and other municipal agencies.

The mayors of Indianapolis, Fishers, Greenwood and Zionsville announced the launch of their regional collaborative approach to open data Monday at the Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis.

As of early Tuesday morning, only data sets for Indianapolis were available for download on the data.indy.gov website. Those data sets included information regarding citizen police complaints, police shootings, use of force incidents, building permits and code enforcement violations and investigations.

The Indianapolis Star (http://indy.st/1kBZk2Q ) reports that data sets for Zionsville, Fishers and Greenwood are expected to be posted to the website soon.
