Vincennes trustees elect Johnson as new president

VINCENNES, Ind. (AP) - Vincennes University interim President Charles Johnson has been elected as the school's next president.

WTHI-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1OGkEOo ) the university board of trustees voted to remove the interim tag from Johnson's title Wednesday.

Johnson became interim president over the summer following the retirement of Richard Helton. Johnson had served as the university provost before his promotion.

Board members credited Johnson for his service to the university.

The enrollment at Indiana's oldest public university topped 19,000 students a year ago.
