Woodlands Academy to host Cabaret fall concert
The Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart Music Department presents its Cabaret fall concert at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19.
This annual event, held in the cafeteria at the school, 760 E. Westleigh Road in Lake Forest, is open to the public free as a means of spotlighting this year's fine arts students.
Choral groups Kaleidoscope, JV-Kaleidoscope (A Choir'd Taste), the Performing Arts chorus and Microscope will perform numbers that are lighthearted in nature. Selections include the '60s hit "Sweet Talkin' Guy," "Out of My Dreams" from "Oklahoma" and a medley of Carole King songs.
The student-led Microscope under the direction of Marissa Howe, a senior from Hoffman Estates, will perform selections including the Beatles hit "Penny Lane."
Other performances will include small group ensembles, vocal and instrumental soloists including a cello solo, Hungarian Rhapsody Opus 68 by Stjepan Hauser, performed by senior Willa Hart of Winnetka.
Student accompanists this year are junior Shiyu Wang, sophomore Qui Ran Dong, junior Haiqing Gong and freshman Zhou Sha from China, and junior Caylee Hamilton from Wadsworth.
The concert is under the direction of Elizabeth Kurowski, director of choral music at Woodlands Academy, and Lauren Moldenhauer, director of instrumental music.
