Prison for man in Elgin home invasion, beating

A man who forced his way into an Elgin apartment, beat a man with a brick and threatened others with a gun while trying to find the person dating his ex-girlfriend was sentenced Thursday to 7.5 years in prison.

Kendale M. Baymon, 25, of the 200 block of Villa Street, Elgin, pleaded guilty to felony home invasion, a charge that carried between six and 30 years in prison, records show.

The plea, accepted by Judge Susan Clancy Boles, was made in exchange for prosecutors dismissing other remaining charges.

Baymon gets credit for 414 days served at the Kane County jail, where he was held while the case was pending. He can halve his sentence with good behavior in prison.

According to police, Baymon forced his way into an apartment on the 0-99 block of South State Street in Elgin on July 25, 2013, looking for his former friend, who was dating Baymon's ex-girlfriend.

The man wasn't there, but Baymon beat another man with a landscape brick and threatened others with a gun before his arrest, police said.

The July attack was not Baymon's first violent offense, records show.

He was arrested and charged with felony domestic battery in Elgin in September 2009 in which he was accused of punching a woman. After spending 13 days in jail, he eventually pleaded guilty to a reduced charge and got two years of probation, which was later revoked.

He also was charged with violation of an order of protection for texting and calling the same woman in February 2011, an offense that resulted in a $1,900 fine and six months of GPS monitoring, records show.
