Lake Villa's Celebration of Summer offers food, music and a car show

The Lake Villa Celebration of Summer will take place Saturday, June 13, at Lehman Park, 148 Cedar Ave., Lake Villa. The celebration features a vendor fair from noon to 4 p.m. and live music by Liberty's Teeth and the youth band US from 5-9:30 p.m., followed by fireworks at dusk.

Headliners Liberty's Teeth performs rock, pop, country and dance music from a range of artists, including classics and current hits.

Attendees ages 18 and older are invited to buy raffle tickets to win a 2014 Honda Ruckus scooter donated by Nielsen Honda. Other raffle prizes include a 50-inch television and children's BMX bikes with helmets. Raffle tickets are $5 each or five for $20. Proceeds go to help fund the fireworks. Drawing for raffle prizes will begin at 4 p.m.

The Celebration of Summer also features an auto show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All years, makes and models of cars are welcome, with an entry fee of $5 per vehicle, which includes a raffle ticket. Visitors will be able to see Casey Kahne's Great Clips car, and the show also includes prizes and an on-site pinstriper. One of the highlights of the Celebration of Summer will be the Lake Villa Township Ribfest from noon to 4 p.m. in Lehman Park. Teams are invited to sign up and compete to see who has the best rib recipe. There is an entry fee of $50, and ribs will be provided by Tony's Butcher Shop.

Awards will be given for best sauce ribs, best dry rub ribs, best booth theme and People's Choice (the ribs that raise the most for the Lake Villa Township Food Pantry. There will also be a rib eating contest.
