Zydlo's battle is saving lives

I wish to pay tribute to Dr. Stanley Zydlo of Northwest Community Hospital, who recently passed away. Dr. Zydlo was the founder of the paramedic program in the Northwest suburbs. His task was difficult, because he had little support and much resistance from municipal firefighters who saw their duty primarily as of transporting those in need of immediate medical attention to the hospital where that care would be provided.

Dr. Zydlo fought an uphill battle to have firefighters perform lifesaving procedures and he ultimately won the fight. Today, because of his tireless effort, many lives have been saved and are being saved.

I thank God for the success of the paramedic program. It was an honor and privilege to have known him.
